Our Story

Where It All Began

The Crab Trap was established in 1967 when Jack Wallace purchased what was then known as Maenner’s Cafe. At the time, Maenner’s menu included tap beer and sandwiches and was served to local Somers Point residents. Today, the menu is much more extensive and they have become a favorite of many folks from far and wide. The Crab Trap Restaurant overlooks the Greate Egg Harbor Bay in Somers Point.

Located on the Somerset Plantation, which was the property of one of the area’s original settlers, John Somers, The Crab Trap serves some of the finest seafood in South Jersey. The Maenner’s Café was remembered for the “horseshoe” bar and dirt floors, but now we have a full service restaurant seating 400 people.

Since 1967, we continue to provide friendly, prompt service to thousands of loyal guests each year. Our menu is a combination of classic dishes that have made us so popular over the years and new cuisine our chefs have created to include something everyone can enjoy.

We have come a long way since the shots and beer of Maenner’s Café, but our owner Jack Wallace and family are still working closely with our staff to ensure you a pleasant dining experience. The Crab Trap is a perfect place for different occasions. Whether it’s a romantic first date, a family celebration, a night out on our Crabby Jack’s Deck Bar, or a business function to impress your clients, we are here to accommodate you.

We look forward to welcoming you as our guest!
